2024 Centerfire Championship Format
Nurturing and developing new and veteran shooters alike is one of the core values of the Eagle Park Precision Rifle Club. We believe a great way to do that is through a friendly and fair intra-club competition!
Members of the club come from all walks of life and possess varying experience, skill and proficiency levels related to shooting sports and PRS competition specifically. It’s also important to recognise that each shooter runs a gear set unique to them, their preference and of course, their situation. Unlike other ranking systems within PRS, this classification system will not consider the equipment of the shooter rather it will instead focus on the skill of the shooter.
A key part of skills development is providing a baseline for each shooter that is accurate and fair. To this end, we are implementing a classification and ranking system as follows.
Classifications
The season will run with matches held from February through to October. The classification system will split shooters into one of three classification brackets and considers the number of impacts on targets compared to the top shooter for that match.
The percentage achieved weighted against the best shooter of the match will determine your “score” for that match.
Club members will be advised of their classification following the October match.
Club Series Classification Bracket Percentages:
- Professional – 80% - 100%
- Semi-Professional – 50% - 79.999%
- Marksman – 0% - 49.999%
Club series and eligibility
Given the difficulty imposed by inclement weather on some days versus perfect conditions on others along with the varying level of fellow competitor’s skill levels between different matches. To be eligible to be considered for the end of series rankings, a shooter must participate in at least 25% of matches.
We recognise the ebb and flow of total shooters attending a match can change considering all the external factors like work, family, and personal commitments not to mention the national PRS series and conflicting dates. The system has been designed to minimise the impact of shooter numbers attending a match versus the diverse nature of shooter skill levels. At the end of the match the best and worst shooter shot the same course of fire in the same conditions. A weighted score of 80% on a bad day is just as good as 80% on a good day.
How does it work:
For each match, percentages are calculated using the following formula: Shooter’s score / winners score x 100, rounded to 3 decimal places.
Example:
Freddie received 54 match points (impacts).
The winner received 62 match points (impacts).
Therefore; (54 / 62) * 100 = 87.0967 rounded to 87.097
To calculate a shooters classification, the shooters percentages results from their top 3 matches are averaged to provide a final classification for that season.
Example based on Freddie’s top 3 matches:
Match 1: Freddie scored 77% of the match winner’s score.
Match 2: Freddie scored 82% of the match winner’s score.
Match 3: Freddie scored 89% of the match winner’s score.
The average is the sum of the values divided by the count. Using the above percentages:
Step 1: 77 + 82 + 89 = 248
Step 2: 248/3 = 82.667%
Freddie is classified as Professional.
EPPRC Championship Series Awards
At the end of the Championship Series the top 3 ranked shooters in each category will be awarded a medal recognising their achievement.
Awards will also be presented for the following
1st Senior (Over 50 years old)
1st Junior (under 18 years old before the first match of that year)
1st Lady
Season Finale
The season finale match will be held during November and is an invite only match.
Invites will be issued to the top 20 shooters from the Professional classification The top 15 shooters from the Semi-Professional classification The top 5 shooters from the Marksman classification
The EPPRC Committee reserves the right to issue a Season Finale Wild Card Entry to any Club Member as the Committee deems appropriate.
Finale scoring will be as follows
Shooters number of impacts at the finale, expressed as a percentage of the highest number of impacts for the day added to the shooter’s percentage utilised for classification purposes above
Example
The highest number of match points (impacts) scored by a shooter at the Finale is 66
Freddie received 61 match points (impacts).
Freddie’s finale percentage is (61 / 66) x 100 = 92.424
Added to 50% of Freddie’s classification percentage calculated above
92.424 + (0.5*82.667) = 133.758
Separate to Championship series medals being issued for overall performance throughout the series, awards will be issued to the top 3 shooters at the Season finale match.
Grit Championship Series
Further to operating the prestigious Club Championship Series, the Grit Championship Series will run alongside with the 3 top ranked shooters awarded a medal recognising their achievement within this series.
The overall Championship will be based on an accumulation of points (impacts). Points accrued throughout the season and will be recorded and posted to a separate leader board on the EPPRC website or via Revsport. Simply put, the shooters that accrue the greatest number of impacts throughout the season will be at the top of the leader board. To be successful in this Championship requires a high level of attendance at club matches throughout the season.
